From: SCVSDA Jubilee To: jubilee-update@scvsda.org Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 08:43:21 -0700 Subject: Jubilee Update: New This Year SCVSDA 51st JUBILEE Friday-Sunday, 12-14 October 2007 Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, San Jose It's now less than three weeks to this year's Jubilee, and we'd like to let you know about some of the new features we've added for your enjoyment! NEW WORKSHOPS We've added several new workshops this year. On Friday, we've added an "Arky Workshop", which will give people a chance to learn "the other part" (men dancing the woman's part, women dancing the man's part). Learn this to make it easier to square up if you find yourself with an imbalanced set of dancers -- or learn it just for fun! On Saturday, we've added an "Intermediate Hex" workshop. This is intended for people who learned the basics of hexagon dancing last year, or who have had similar experience with hexagon dancing elsewhere. The workshop will include the application of hex dancing rules to some Plus calls that are not normally covered in an introductory hex session. Dancing is more fun when squares don't break down! The new "Precision Dancing" workshop on Sunday will explore some simple techniques that can keep your squares dancing. See how good dance habits, consistently practiced, and lead towards better and more enjoyable dancing. (All of these workshops are suitable for Plus dancers.) EXPANDED CHALLENGE PROGRAM To serve the increased number of C-1 dancers in this area, we've added more C-1 dancing time. We've also added C-3A and C-3B sessions on Friday evening. INTRODUCTION TO ROUNDS If you've been seeing people do round dancing at hoedowns or your club but haven't had a chance to do it yourself, this new Sunday session is for you. Our featured cuers will teach you enough of the basics that you'll be able to try it out during the evening DieHard dance! EXPANDED "ANYTHING GOES" HOUR Last year the final tip on Saturday afternoon was "hot hash". We've expanded that to a full hour this year in each hall (4-5pm in the Plus, Advanced, and Challenge halls) and are calling it "Anything Goes". Does that mean hot hash? APD? faster calling? "take no prisoners"? It's up to the caller -- anything goes! And for dancers who'd rather spend that hour in a more relaxed way, we've added a "Relaxed Plus Dancing" session. The choice is up to you. VARIETY HALL This year during Saturday evening the Pavilion patio will be called "Variety Hall", featuring, well, a variety of different dance activities for your amusement. FRIDAY AFTERPARTY Last year the afterparty on Friday night was for "VIPs" only. But who could be more important than the dancers attending Jubilee? This year's "Chairman's Afterparty" at 11pm on Friday will be open to everybody with a Jubilee ribbon. (Yes, we're still having the Ice Cream Afterparty on Saturday night too!) ***** For the detailed schedule for the whole weekend, visit our web site at: http://www.scvsda.org/jubilee-program.html And remember -- the official deadline to sign up for Jubilee at the pre-registration price (just $35 for the whole weekend) is the end of this month.
