From: SCVSDA Jubilee To: jubilee-update@scvsda.org Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2008 22:15:19 -0700 Subject: food options, beginning/returning/rusty dancers, banners Yes, the 52nd Jubilee starts THIS FRIDAY. If you haven't registered yet, there's only one way to still get the pre-registration price, and that's to register online through our web site: http://www.scvsda.org/cgi-bin/registration.cgi Online registration will CLOSE tomorrow (Tuesday) night! * NEWS ABOUT OFFERINGS FOR BEGINNING AND RUSTY/RETURNING DANCERS * NEWS ABOUT FOOD OPTIONS IN THE FAIRGROUNDS AREA * CLUB BANNERS FOR DISPLAY We've told you earlier about the new sessions we have planned especially with new Plus graduates in mind. But Jubilee also has sessions designed to introduce complete beginners to square dancing, and to help bring back dancers who may have been away from the activity for a while or have otherwise gotten "rusty". On Friday evening from 7 to 9 we will be having our "Intro to Square Dancing" session. This is very similar to a class intro night -- except you can use it to introduce your friends to square dancing even if your club isn't having a class, or if the intro nights for your club's class are done. Please encourage your club members -- and class members -- to make use of this opportunity to introduce THEIR friends to square dancing. New dancers are often the most enthusiastic recruiters -- and they know other people who haven't tried square dancing yet! On Sunday we will again be having a full-day "Blast Class". This is also for beginners, but covers a lot more calls. Of course, if your members bring new people to either the Intro or Blast, your club then has the option of allowing them to join your class already in progress! Think of it as a second chance to get people into your class, without your club/caller having to run another set of intro nights. In the past we've seen a number of FORMER dancers coming to these sessions as a way of getting back up to speed. They can still do that, but this year we are also trying out a new kind of session specifically for them, called "Review of Mainstream Calls" (Friday evening 9 to 11). Do you know somebody who dropped out of dancing because of a change in schedule or life circumstances -- and whose situation has now changed again so that they could dance? Maybe they feel they have forgotten too much to just jump in again, but too little to want to start all over again. Tell them about this session! If they are really unsure about whether they remember anything, suggest that they start with the Intro at 7pm and then the Mainstream Review at 9pm. They may be surprised at how much they actually remember, and be ready to move on to the main hall by Saturday. Or they can choose the Saturday morning Mainstream sessions instead to get more practice. If your club has a list of people who were members two, three, or more years ago but aren't coming anymore -- send them an e-mail and let them know about this special opportunity! This will serve items appropriate for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and will be open Friday evening and during the day on Saturday and Sunday. * You can still get tickets for our Saturday evening "Spaghetti Feed" dinner, which will be served right in the Pavilion building and features: Spaghetti in Marinara Sauce Meatballs (served separately so you can choose a no-meat meal) Green Salad Garlic Bread Lemonade Coffee Cake (You can still get the pre-registration price for this dinner, but only by registering online by tomorrow!) * Cake will be served at the Friday afterparty, and ice cream will be served at the Saturday afterparty. (These afterparties are included at no extra charge for everyone with a dance ribbon.) * If you prefer to eat off-site, ask at the registration desk for a copy of our updated restaurant map, showing the locations of restaurants within approximately two miles of the fairgrounds. In addition to the restaurants that existed last year, a large shopping center called "The Plant" has just opened very near the fairgrounds (diagonally across the intersection of Tully and Monterey); ten outlets at this location serving various sorts of food are included on the updated map. CLUB BANNERS FOR DISPLAY We will once again be displaying, on the walls of the main dance hall, banners of area clubs. This includes both SCVSDA member clubs and any other clubs whose members are participating in Jubilee. In order to hang these banners, we need to have them by Thursday morning. Please let us know (write to jubilee@scvsda.org or call Joe Dehn at 408-774-1570) how we can arrange to get your club's banner for this purpose. 52nd Annual Jubilee 10-12 October 2008 Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, San Jose http://www.scvsda.org/jubilee.html == Jubilee Update is a service of the Santa Clara Valley Square Dancers Association.
