From: SCVSDA Jubilee To: jubilee-update@scvsda.org Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2010 20:58:07 -0700 Subject: Jubilee is dead; long live Jubilee! Jubilee 2010 is now history, part of the melancholy process of transforming opportunities into memories. So our thinking now turns to Jubilee 2011 -- SCVSDA's 55th Annual Jubilee -- scheduled for the weekend of October 14-16, 2011. To get started planning it, we need your help. For those of you who attended Jubilee 2010, we'd like to read what you thought of it. What parts were you happy with? What parts were you disappointed with? What parts were okay but could have been better? For those of you who didn't attend, we'd like to read about why. Especially if the reason is one we can do something about. (If you were in Maui last weekend, or at AT&T Park, there's not much we can do about that.) Like everyone, we don't especially enjoy reading about what we did wrong. But we also know that getting honest, constructive criticism is a key part of improvement. So we really do want to know what we can do to make Jubilee better and more attractive to all square and round dancers. Please tell us about whatever *you* think is important. We want to know your thoughts about the obvious questions ... preferred location (San Jose versus elsewhere); preferred type of venue (a school, a hotel, a fairgrounds); what callers you would like to see us hire; and what dance programs (levels) you want Jubilee to offer. But we also want to know what questions we are not asking that you think are important to our putting on a successful, fun Jubilee. Since we're asking you for candor and honesty, we'll start by giving you a bit of both. All of us on the Jubilee 2010 Committee think that Jubilee 2010 went pretty well -- excellent calling, a great venue in a good location, superb sound in all the halls, and a great dinner by The BBQ Connection. But one part didn't go well: Not enough of you came. We won't have final numbers for a month or so, but preliminary estimates are that Jubilee 2010 lost money. Maybe a lot of money. And that makes planning Jubilee 2011 especially challenging. The Jubilee 2011 Committee will need to develop a plan that: -- keeps all the strengths of Jubilee 2010 -- fixes the problems you identify -- adds more things that you say you want -- does all of that within a budget that expected attendance will cover This won't be easy, and we can't do it alone. So please send us your feedback (to jubilee@scvsda.org) as soon as you can.
